My artistic focus has meandered from painting to quilt making, and from traditional quilts to a more artistic use of fabrics. As usual, I am drawn to color with a new ability to use stitching to achieve texture I never could with paint.

Inspired by trips to the coast and the redwood forests of  California. A variety of different fabrics make up this art quilt, including shot cottons, batiks and cotton quilting fabrics in beautiful neutral colors. The piece is machine quilted in wavy
​lines with variegated threads to  echo trunks and bark.
Irregular edges add to the organic feel of the piece.

Serenity

I created this art quilt as a quieter version of my "Center Pivot" quilt. It is pieced as well as raw edge applique and machine quilted with contrasting thread to give texture. 
The quilt back is finished with a hand stitched facing rather than binding for a finished look, and I've added a small casing so it can also be hung from a thin strip of wood, (optional), dowel or decorative rod. This piece could also be framed under glass.
Approximately 25 inches square.
